STONE FLIES

That below appears to be a male Nemurella pictetii, but the differences with others are difficult to identify.
Length overall about 1 cm including wings, body is slightly less as the wings extend beyond the abdomen. Although the insect is rather grey in overall appearance the abdomen is brown in colour. Compare this to the soldier beetle which is of about the same size and overall shape, but which differs in colour and wings. SOLDIER BEETLES
Several of these were seen on plants along the River Leven in July.
