GLEN ALWYN LODGE & CARMIRDAL GATEPIERS, former Tullichewan North Lodge, Old Luss Road, Balloch.
ACCESS : The gateway is on Luss Road, but the property behind is private.
Listed B.
All that remains of the lodge is the gatepiers over which it looked. Along with TULLICHEWAN ESTATE STABLES and TULLICHEWAN SOUTH LODGE this is a last vestige of what was a large estate with a grand castle. (Each of these and TULLICHEWAN CASTLE) are discussed separately.
The gateway now forms the entrance to a pair of cottages, that of Glen Alwyn has a rounded end with slender columns and arches usually covered in creepers across a shallow verandah.
As with the other castle buildings it was designed by Robert Lugar in the early 19th century. The gateway and cottages are now painted pebbledash. The gateway are sturdy and gothicand gabletted with moulded caps.
