SWAN BRIDGE, Forth and Clyde Canal / Sylvania Way, Clydebank.
ACCESS : Good access to all pedestrians.
The Clydebank Shopping Centre links across the canal into Sylvania Way across a footbridge. There had long been a bridge there, but it was much the worse for wear and ugly. The canopy was designed by leading international architects RMJM, who won a competition entered by more than 60 architects from around the world to create a landmark structure as part of the town’s regeneration plans. The elegant form was inspired by a swan in flight and it is that which gives it the name most people refer to it as.
