FLY AGARIC MUSHROOM : Amanita muscaria
Well known from fairytales. This is the reputed home of fairies and magical creatures and when found in damp woodland, mainly birch, you can easily imagine the underworld materialising around you as the light fades.
BUT don't get tempted to follow them - if eaten it can cause hallucinations and psychotic reactions.
The trees around it benefit tooas it helps by transferring nutrients into their roots.
A magical mushroom in the woods adjoining the Carman Reservoir in October.
