STORM EOWYN PHOTOS - The Vale of Leven January 2025

Many of you will have your own memories and stories of this storm. Here is a small collection of ours.

CARDROSS ROAD, RENTON

Some tree. Some damage. Cardross Road above Renton.

Nature's artistic treatment of an iron paling fence.

The tree that came down in Cardross Road broke the overhead cables.  The impact may have been further up where the cable actually snapped, but it also disturbed the distribution connections on the pole. Up until this point, the cabling is underground.

PRIVATE GARDEN OFF CARDROSS ROAD, RENTON

Two of several trees that split and fell (unlike the above tree which tipped over with its roots going with it).

CORNER BUILDING, MAIN STREET / GILMOUR STREET, ALEXANDRIA

The sandstone gable of this building gave way. It is possible that years of water ingress from faulty flashing aided by ice, caused this stonework to fail. It simply needed high wind to loosen the flashing and adjoining roofing to then loosen the stonework. These walls are solid in that they do not have a gap between the outer and inner faces. Instead that is filled with smaller rubble and gravel. The fallen material was quickly removed and the pavement closed to pedestrians.

Here you can see the pile of stone and debris cleared by the digger from the street and pavement. IF anyone had been walking below that at the time they would not have had a chance of survival.

RENTON ROAD, FROM DUMBARTON

Just some of the many trees cleared from this road.

PIER ROAD, BALLOCH

This car had a tree or large branch fall onto the roof and then bounce across the windscreen. The driver was shaken, but not hurt.

What it looks like from inside the car.

It would be quite pretty it was not also scary and frustrating.
