BLUSHING BRACKET : Daedaleopsis confragosa

This is a common fans-haped bracket fungus that grows on dead deciduous wood, particularly willow and birch. The upperside is brown through to tan with distinctive rings. It can appear more red as it ages. The species is named for the way its pale underside (patterned with slot-like pores) will bruise pale red if pressed on with a finger. [Woodland Trust].

Our examples here are on a dead tree in Fishers Wood in April.
