REDWING : Turdus iliacus
You are very likely to have seen this bird in West Dunbartonshire, but not necessarily to have recognsied it. It is the UK's smallest true thrush, but have been confused with that. It is usually only a winter visitor so is limited to only a few nesting pairs during the rest of the year. They roam across the UK's countryside, feeding in fields and hedgerows, rarely visiting gardens, except in the coldest weather when snow covers the fields. [RSPB]. However when we do see them they are most likely in small flocks.
Well camouflaged amongst winter leaves.
These pictures were taken in Tolcross Park, Glasgow, in Janaury 2025. The birds were part of a flock of about 20+. They only settled for short bouts of seeking grubs from under the dry leaves.
