CLYDESIDE COMMUNITY PARK, Beardmore Way, Dalmuir.
ACCESS : Easy acces by foot, cycle or car. Turn down Beardmore Way at the Beardmore Sculpture of a ship.
This small park sits alongside the Golden Jubilee Memorial Hospital and The Golden Jubilee Hotel griounds and overlooking the Clyde. In fact it is its close proximity to the Clyde that gives this park its special character. There is a short, but pleasant waterside walk from which you can view the ocassional passing ship or other craft - or planes arriving or leaving the airport not that far away.
The park consists of lawns and trees with seating and a play area. That sounds charming. But by 2024 the park was almost abandoned. It is still visited by many people, some with dogs, some with small children. But it is unkempt and some paved pathway is flooded.
What is most significant of this place is that it is on the site of the Beardmore Naval Shipbuilding Yard. There is a war memorial to those employees who died on service during the First World War. Also see BEARDMORE NAVAL SHIPBUILDING YARD BEARDMORE SHIPYARD, DALMUIR and WAR MEMORIALS - DALMUIR. WAR MEMORIALS : DALMUIR
A view across the Clyde from the approach to the park.
