LILAC : Syringa vulgaris
Also known as the common lilac.
This another plant that has been introduced, but which has become naturalised over such a long time that we now think of it as local. It is a flowering shrub of the olive family Oleaceae, native to the Balkan Peninsula. (A white variety is known as Syringa Vulgaris Alba or the Common White Lilac and is a true old-fashioned garden favourite).
