A plaque on the lodge wall declares :

LEVENGROVE PARK

GIFTED TO THE INHABITANTS

OF DUMBARTON

BY

JOHN MACMILLAN

AND

PETER DENNY

1885.

The grounds were mostly those of former mansion house of Levengrove which was demolished circa 1880. Mr MacLennan of Glasgow parks made a report on the grounds, and it may have been his plan which was used for the lay-out. [HES].
