University of Aberdeen Library, Aberdeen
After walking around old Aberdeen it can be disappointing to enter the newer part of the Aberdeen University campus. It is some of the older buildings that give the whole area its dignified academic aura, but modernity has marched westwards with some degree of banality. And that disappointment was again met with the realisation that the new library was to be a rectangular cube. A decorated box.
But I must admit that this is one that has grown on me a bit, particularly after having been inside. Some students initially missed the nooks and crannies of the old library, but soon got to relate to this layout rising in a swirl of curves skywards.
