John Innes of Blackhills, near Elgin, had four sons with his first wife, Helen Donaldson. The eldest, William [1771-1847] became a lawyer in Edinburgh. The other three, John, Alexander and Robert, went to Demerara. [Robert Young, Annals of the parish and burgh of Elgin (Elgin: James Watson, 1879) p.605, using an ms history of the Donaldson family].
Their sister Margaret married a James Gunn in Forres and this couple's son, William Innes Gunn [1805-1841?], died in Berbice [London Gazette, 1842].
There was a relationship to Lachlan Cumming, who subsequently bought Blackhills and, in his will, left £100 to his kinswoman Helen Donaldson.
