William Young, factor, to Lady Sutherland 1st June 1811
I beg to trouble your Ladyship with a letter from John Grant a native of Sutherland in Demerara, who is remitting small sums of money to his mother in Golspy . . . in this letter I have advised the Demerara man to send as much at once as will build a House and inclose a Garden at Pittentrail [Rogart – being laid out as a village] to which when he comes home access may be had, for nothing willl more encourage such people to return in the Country than to find a comfortable habitation which they can call their own and in which their parents are already settled.
