Schools in the Highlands

A number of schools in the Highlands were both funded by donations from plantation owners in Guyana and educated children sent back form these colonies, some of whom were illegitimate children of mixed race.

For an account of these schools in relation to investment in the Caribbean, see Douglas Hamilton, Scotland, the Caribbean and the Atlantic World, 1750-1820 (MUP, 2005), pp204-211
