Archibald MacFarlan

Duncan MacFarlan, minister of Drymen (1792-1823), became minister of Glasgow Cathedral in 1824, from which time on he also held the post of Principal of Glasgow University. His son, Archibald, qualified as a doctor in 1829 and worked in Demerara from at least 1836. Another son, John, followed a military career which took him to St Kitts, Canada, and Corfu. Archibald died at plantation Kitty, Demerara, on 4 May 1866. [Mss letters, Glasgow University]
