Highland Scots - Moray & Strathspey: John Sutor

John Sutor, mason in Rothes, and Henry Anderson were in partnership in Grenada as builders and masons. A dispute arose, which eventually was decided on appeal to the House of Lords, as to whether the partnership, or Henry Anderson as an individual, owned plantation Prospect in Demerara, in the 1790s. Joseph Innes was empowered to act for both men under a power of attorney and the plantation was managed by William Innes [NAS CS96/4483 Anderson and Sutor, masons, Grenada. Day book and ledger, Prospect estate, Demerara Dates 1791-1796]. The case was appealed to the House of Lords.
