Cenarth Community Council

The Council meeting was held on Wednesday 6th July 2016 at 7.00 p.m. at Y Ganolfan Capel Iwan.

Members Present: - Don Griffiths (Chairman), Jeff Lewis, Nigel Williams, Meurig Thomas, and County Councillor Hazel Evans. Apologies received from William Davies, Samuel Jones, Richard James, Guto Jones, Anthony John, Hywel Bowen and PCSO Jeff Kedward.

The chairman welcomed everyone to the meeting and asked the clerk Mr Ken Davies to read the minutes of the June meeting. They were proposed as being correct by Nigel Williams and Jeff Lewis.  

Matters Arising

  1. Councillor Hazel Evans stated that she had again spoken to the Highways Supervisor - Mr Tony Williams regarding the highways work on the roads in the Cenarth area.

  2. Hazel had also pointed out the deep pothole on the road leading from Ardwyn Square down to Pentref Isaf. Don Griffiths produced documents regarding the works carried out across the entrance to Pentre Farm bungalow and the gutter carrying the village spring water overflow. Councillor Hazel Evans took the information documents and would take them in to the Highways Office in Carmarthen.

  3. Councillor Hazel Evans was also attempting to have repair works carried out to the surface water gutter from Brynifor through to Maesgwyn entrance.

  4. Nigel Williams stated that he would look into the cost of purchasing metal ends to repair the public seat by Argoed Caravan Park, Cenarth.

  5. Nigel Williams stated that he had taken the completed mandate forms into Barclays Bank, Newcastle Emlyn who would be forwarding the new information and signatories to their headquarters.

  6. Jeff Lewis stated that he had been in contact with Mr Russell Jones of National Environment Wales regarding the broken signage at Allt y Ceiliog Forestry Picnic Site near the Penlan Holiday Village – Cenarth. Jeff had been informed that the necessary works would be carried out shortly.

  7. Councillor Hazel Evans also noted that the Highways Department had promised to carry out repairs to the collapsed gutter at Llain Road, Bwlchcaebrith.

  8. The clerk also noted that the Picnic Site sign near Blaenesgair had been moved closer to the Llwyndu entrance.

  9. Nigel Williams stated that he had been approached by the owner of the bungalow at Bryn Square, Penrherber Road regarding the entrance door to the old BT red telephone box. It appears that the door hinges and header bar have broken and in need of attention. Nigel stated that he would carry out an inspection and report back to the Council.

Correspondence

  1. A letter was received from Urdd Gobaith Cymru – Myrddin Area, Carmarthenshire asking whether the council would be willing to support the movement to ensure great opportunities for children and young people in the area. The local Myrddin area has a membership of nearly 6,000 this year which is the highest across Wales. Members agreed to send a donation of £50 to assist with running costs.

  2. A letter was received from the Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service stating that the 34% of incidents occurred at properties without smoke alarms. We were asked to promote their free smoke alarms campaign to all residence in our area. For a free safety check contact the Fire Service on 0800 169 1234.

Planning Applications:

  1. App. Number W/34007 – proposed erection of a two storey extension to the side of a dwelling at Ffynnon Fran, Capel Iwan – No Obligations.

  2. App. Number W/33936 – Alteration of existing roof structure and internal alterations at Derw Bowi, Capel Iwan – No obligations.

The meeting ended 8:30 p.m. Next meeting Thursday 1st September   2016 at 7.00 p.m. at y Ganolfan, Capel Iwan.
