Peter Young
Peter Young [1795-1866] was born in Kirkcudbright [Scotland] and was recorded as a slave owner in Demerara in 1832, when Hugh McLeod registered 32 slaves for himself and Peter Young on plantation Waterloo [T71/431 p. 1041]. They received compensation of £1511 18s 11d for 25 enslaved in 1836 [LBS British Guiana 2448 (Waterloo)].
Young married Margaret Blair Smith and had five children, all born in Demerara: George Rainy Young [b1839], Grace Margaret Young [b1840], Janet Ann Young [b1843], Peter Duncan Young [b1845] and James Adam Young [1846-61]. He returned to Scotland and was living in Musselburgh (near Edinburgh) in 1861, with his three youngest children. He died on 2 September 1866 [GROS 685/05 0517].

Note: the death certificate of his son James Adam Young [GROS 689/00 0093] gives the name of Young's wife simply as Margaret Blair, not Margaret Blair Smith (which is the name given on Peter Young's death certificate).
