John Mackenzie (Inverness)
John Mackenzie (1792-1841) ‘formerly of Inverness, and late of Demerara’ died in Montpellier Square, Brompton, London on 20 June 1841 [Times]. In his will [SC70/1/61] he left £500 to his sister, Isabella Mackay, widow, of Inverness. He left the remainder of his estate to his wife, Elizabeth, with the exception of £1000, the interest on which was to go to her during her life but, should she die, the principal sum would also go to his sister.
He might have been the brother of Jane Mackenzie ‘formerly of Demerara’ who died in Edinburgh on 3 September 1835, since her executor was her brother John Mackenzie, residing in London [SC70/1/53].
