Slave registers
Slave Registers of former British Colonial Dependencies, 1812-1834, are held by The National Archives in Kew, Surrey, England. The registers for Berbice (1818-19 & 1822) have been digitised and are available online at Ancestry.co.uk. The registers for Demerara have not yet been digitised.
Information available on these records includes:
* Name of owner
* Place of residence (usually name of parish)
* Name of slave
* Gender of slave
* Age of slave
* Nationality of slave
A summary of all slaves held in Berbice in 1818 is available for download on the library page of this site.
NEW: Also available is a speadsheet of ownership in 1819 with additions (purchase, transfer, births) and deductions (sale, transfer, death, free-ing) between 1819 and 1822.
