Tesco v God

Chapels and churches are slowly becoming local community centres

When Tesco put in a planning application to aquire the Baglan Social Club in Baglan for yet another store, it was a wake up call for the local community.

A group of residents got together and put in a counter planning application for change of use and to make it a Social Community Church.

Some residents thought there was little hope of winning against the powerful Tesco chain who always seem to get what they want.  However, the leader of the church group was confident they would win adding: "We have got God on our side."    And, of course, they won the application.

The Baglan Community Church is now a big success story and even has a cafe open to everyone thoughout the week.

Meetings are well attended with a modern format to inspire those joining in with music and song.

Modern lighting with modern musical instruments - all set up for another  inspirational get-together.

Large regular attendances show how popular the modern format is.

Meetings at the church bring out that feel good factor with a wonderful community spirit - ideal for families growing up together.   Visitors are alway welcome.
