A large crowd enjoyed the event sponsored by Cadw that took place last weekend at Neath Abbey - Mike Davies was there.

Hands on Heritage

Once again the sun shone at Neath Abbey ruins where the Hands on Heritage and Cadw put on a wonderful display of medieval  arts and crafts, which included woodcarving, the making of tiles, weaving , and many more which the children could participate in.

There was also battle dress of medieval days, long bows and even a knight in shining armour.
Our guide for the day was Cadw expert Bill Zajac who gave us a history tour of the Abbey which was very interesting.
He went on to mention that Neath is so fortunate to have this jewel in the crown on our doorstep.

And Neath Abbey was built on the same principal as that of Tintern Abbey and that Cadw is looking into restoring the Abbey so that it will last well into the next century,

It is re-assuring to know that such history will survive
