Neath born Swansea City Player on TV

Local boy Ben's rise to the top

Ben Davies, Swansea City’s rising Welsh star, will be the focus of a brand new S4C documentary shown on Wednesday 21 August 2013.

Following his sudden rise to the top of the game the Neath born 20-year-old will give us a glimpse into his life in the programme Ben Davies on Wednesday, 21 August at 9.30 pm, with English subtitles available.

Having joined Swansea at 16 on an apprenticeship contract Ben made his first-team debut as a late substitute during their 3-0 home win against West Ham in August 2012, replacing fellow Welsh international Neil Taylor.

When Taylor suffered a season-ending injury in the next game against Sunderland Ben was promoted into the starting 11.

“At the time I went into the game not knowing much, but when the chance came I just had to do my best,” says Ben, who lives at home with his parents and his sister in Tonna. “I knew I might not get that chance again.”

Ben went on to make 37 appearances for Swansea during the course of the 2012/2013 season which included his first goal for the club in their 3-1 home win against Stoke in January, becoming the youngest ever player to score for the Swans at 19-years-old.
