A sad report

A thought for a friend

We contrast the happiness of St.Valentines Day with a report from PCSO Cerys Jones (left) who tells us about her friend and colleague PCSO Lian Gittus pictured right.

Dear Friends

I know some of you are already of aware of this but for those of you that don’t know PCSO Lian GITTUS, who previously covered Bryncoch North/South has an extremely rare form of cancer in her spine. You may have seen her story on last night’s Evening Post.

Basically as the type of cancer she has and also its location (within a vertebrae is not possible to operate without causing a significant amount of damage to her. Intense chemotherapy has not worked and although radiotherapy is an option it will not fully remove the tumour and the cancer has a 20% chance of returning. Therefore the only option left for Lian is to go to America and have Proton Therapy. This will cost approx £100K and at the moment it does not look like there is any funding within the NHS to assist her.

Lian has suffered with this for the passed two years and is in extreme pain for much of the time. This has had a massive impact on not only her life but also on that of her husband, Jason and their 11year old daughter, Chloe.

I am organising a charity auction within the next two-three weeks (just waiting for the venue to confirm before I publish details) and what I am asking is if anyone is able to donate anything to the auction to try and help raise funds for Lian or if anyone would like to make a monetary donation it would be extremely gratefully received!

I will come back to you all once the details of the auction are confirmed to see if anyone would like to buy tickets to attend.

Regards,
Cerys

The Editorial team wish Lian all the best for a speedy recovery.
