Dave hails from Brighton. On leaving school, he followed a family tradition and joined the Army - more specifically the Royal Engineers - and remained a soldier for seventeen years. His military service took him and later Joy, his wife and their two children to different parts of the world. As a Royal Engineer, Dave was involved in a range of engineering and construction activities. On leaving the Army as a senior non-commissioned officer, he and his family lived in Brighton, then Bedford and finally Auchtermuchty. In civilian life Dave has worked as a transport manager and maintenance engineer, as an owner driver - hauling concrete, as a volunteer in the TA and for a defence company involved in classified tasks, where he became workshop superintendent. On taking early retirement, Dave and Joy re-located to Auchtermuchty, to be nearer their daughter and her family. They joined the local kirk, where Dave became Beadle. Joy is treasurer at Strathmiglo kirk. He now serves on the kirk's Congregational Board and, as well as being involved in the maintenance of the kirk and manse, also helps folk in his community with tasks in their homes. Dave is a practical, hands on man, who enjoys helping others. Rotary provides him with opportunities to help people locally, in other parts of the United Kingdom and internationally.
