The Rotary Young Chef Competition is the only Britain and Ireland-wide cooking contest with some 6,000 entrants each year in the 11 - 17 age range.

The Competition requires entrants to prepare and cook a 3 course meal (2 servings of each) to a budget of up to £15 within a 2 hour time frame.

They are judged not only on their culinary skills and presentation but also healthy choices, timing and costing plans, their work organisation and work practices.  Many a restaurant would be proud of the quality our little cuisinieres produce.

None of this can happen without the cooperation of local High Schools and Rotary Clubs along with local businesses and industry professionals.  District 1010 is extremely lucky to have the support of Macphies of Glenbervie and their extremely experienced Development Chefs Derek Baird and Norman Brockwell who give their time and expertise freely in judging and rewarding contestants in the two District Finals in Dundee and Aberdeen.

In Dundee 17 year old Abbie Clunie of SRUC Elmwood Campus, Fife representing Howe of Fife won through by the thinnest of margins in an exceptionally tight competition.

In Aberdeen with competitors coming from as far afield as Stornoway and Ullapool, this year's worthy winner was 16 year old Katie Lamb from Madras College, St Andrews and supported by the St Andrews Club, first timers in the competition.

The Industry is in safe hands with such professionals bringing on our next generation of Chefs.
