Chimwemwe Children’s Centre

Chimwemwe Children’s Centre was founded in 2009 asome of the boysnd is registered with the Malawian Government.  It supports vulnerable street children, helping them to gain education and training as a step to breaking the cycle of poverty in which they live.

Many of the street children have been orphaned by HIV/AIDS but some of them have been abandoned by families who can no longer afford to look after them and others have run away from an abusive family life.  Chimwemwe works with the street children, their families and their communities to support the children by providing school uniforms, school fees and equipment, sporting opportunities, food and drink, and when necessary, shelter.

It also works to promote and defend child rights at both local and governmental levels.

There are currently approximately 40 children involved with Chimwemwe.  On a recent visit to Malawi, Amanda Fleet ran an introductory First Aid course for the volunteers and helped to hand out new uniforms to the children.

Donations from the Howe of Fife Rotary club have provided uniforms, school fees and equipment for the children.
