Born in St Albans, Hertfordshire, in 1952 with a complex multinational European ancestry that traces back to a Cossack general at the start of the eighteenth century. He originally came to Fife in 1980, intending to only live there for a few years, but decided he liked it and stayed. Despite this he is much travelled, with qualifications from several British and US universities, and is now trying to retire progressively after a long career in the semiconductor industry, latterly as Managing Director of a multinational company. He is married to Jane, a retired microbiologist, and has two grown up sons living in Glasgow and London. Hobbies are mountaineering and cycling and definitely not golf!
