Born 1944 in the Howe village of Strathmiglo. Educated at Strathmiglo Primary School, Bell Baxter High School and Aberdeen University. Learned to fly with Aberdeen University Air Squadron, which led to a career in the Royal Air Force. Honorary Royal Aide-de-Camp to Lord Clydesmuir, Lord High Commissioner to the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland in 1971. Awarded Queen’s Commendation for Valuable Services in the Air 1977. Exchange Service with Richthofen Wing of the Luftwaffe 1976-79. Royal Naval College Greenwich Graduate 1983. Appointed OBE in 1991 Gulf War Honours List. Played cricket for Stratheden, Bell Baxter 1st XI and RAF Leuchars. Past President of RAF Leeming Cricket Club. He and his wife Ann (m. 1965) enjoy golf at Elmwood. Past President of the Allied Forces Central Europe Golfing Society. Founder member of the Adastral Burns Club. Founder member, past Chairman and current webmaster of Bell Baxter High School Former Pupils’ Association. Does occasional translation and interpreting (French and German) for the Fife Community Interpreting Service. Sandy and Ann have three married daughters and six grandchildren.
