A retired NHS doctor with over 30 years experience as a General Practice Principal in Fife. In this role he has dealt with many problems concerning the mental wellbeing of his patients. He has been involved in the running of a business – General Practice - and in the organisation of primary care services in partnership with Fife Health Board. He was an established trainer for the registrars and medical students of general practice for 20 years and took part in their educational activities. Since retirement from the NHS, he has been involved with the voluntary sector in various roles. He has worked in Namibia with Raleigh International, a youth development charity and in Peru with the Vine Trust, providing health care to isolated villages on the Amazon. He has had many voyages as a doctor and a watch leader on the tall ships of the Jubilee Sailing Trust. Nearer home he has been involved with Rotary for 20 years, including as co-ordinator for Shelter Box, a charity providing shelter worldwide for disaster situation. He also works for Continuing Care North East Fife, providing befriending and transport services for the community. Married forty one years to Jane, with three sons and six grandchildren.
