On Monday 24th November, at Rossie Farm, Auchtermuchty, President Graeme Bain of the Rotary Club of the Howe of Fife took delivery of a large consignment of Rooster potatoes from Gus Farmer of Albert Bartlett & Sons. The delivery was supplimented by a further two tonnes of Maris Piper and Valor, supplied by a local farmer from Perth.
25 kg (56 lb) bags of the potatoes were sold to the public for £7.00 per bag at both the the Deer Centre and Cupar Garden Cemtre between 1 pm and 3 pm on Saturday and Sunday, 29 & 30 November; 6 & 7 December and 13 December. A total of Ten tonnes were sold at the two locations - "faster than hot cakes" was the comment, despite the cold weather!
On the 6th and 7th, Rotarians were in Auchtermuchty and sold four tonnes door-to-door.
The final week saw two tonnes sold to the residents of Strathmiglo and another tonne to residents of Ladybank.
The last tonne was split between Cupar Garden Centre and the Deer Centre on the 13th.
All in all it was a marathon effort selling the spuds. The magnificent sum of £5,013 was raised.
Many thanks to all who were involved in the supply, sale and purchase of these potatoes!
All proceeds will go towards the club's charity funds, to help projects both home and abroad.
