CASTLE KNOCKED OVER BY HOUSE

Northwich Guardian, Wednesday 21st May.

Castle Private bowed out of the inaugural Super Cup, a National knockout competition organised by former bowls manager at the Waterloo Hotel, on sunday.

The Mid Cheshire bowling association champions lost narrowly on aggregate, by 220-211, against yorkshire outfit Morton House.

Adrian Faulkner, Andy Hamman and Dave O'Brien were winners in the home leg, while Steve Morrey scored a success on the road.

Games at each venue, played to 31 up, were contested by 4 man teams.

FINAL HURDLE

Wharton Cons hope to secure progress to Super Cup finals day when they host Sale Excelsior in the second leg of their last 16 clash this Saturday.

The Winsford outfit were slender winners, by nine chalks, on aggregate after the first meeting. Play starts at the Tin Mission at 2pm.

MIXED FORTUNE

Northwich Guardian, Wednesday 22nd October.

Wharton Cons exited the Arthur Land Super cup at the last eight stages with defeat to Meole Brace. The Winsford outfit had sent out County rivals Sale Excelsior to reserve a spot at Ye Olde bowling club in Solihull, where Greville Arms were victorious.

Wharton, represented by Glynn Cookson, Simon Cookson, Graham Donnelly and Tom Vickers, beat Middlewich CC to win the Hartford October Floodlit last Saturday.

SUPER CASTLE

Northwich Guardian, Wednesday 29th July.

Castle Private have progressed to the last 16 of the Arthur Land Super Cup following an aggregate success against Burbage.

Following a narrow nine chalk reverse in Buxton, the Mid Cheshire bowling association title favourites won by 33 in the home leg.

Wharton Cons also have a defecit to overturn if they are to join their rivals. The Winsford club lost by 13 points away to Preston based Parkfield on Sunday, when both Thomas Vickers and Shaun Yearsley were winners.

FINALS PLACE

Northwich Guardian, Wednesday 23rd September.

Castle Private overturned a first leg deficit on Sunday to progress to the Artur Land Super cup last eight.

Trailing by 36 chalks following an away match at Sheffield based Meersbrook, they recovered to win by 74 in the return.

Andy Hamman, Matt Hamman, Dave O'Brien and Adi Faulkner recorded victories for Castle in their head to heads.

The remaining eight teams will gather for the finals day next month to compete for the £700 first Prize.
