GURNEY ALL SMILES AFTER TROPHY WIN

The 13th Alan Bratt memorial trophy final wasn't an ulucky experience for Castle Privates John Gurney as he collected the prize and cash pot.

Gurney saw off Lostock's Jason Cornes in the final 21-18 at Pochins on Saturday in the all Mid Cheshire final. Gurney beat home player Paul Farrington in the semi final while Cornes progressed after beating another Pochins bowler, Alan Gillett

GURNEY'S GLORY

Middlewich Guardian, friday 23rd June.

John Gurney became the first player to win the Alan Bratt memorial trophy more than once in it's 14 year history when he regained the title on Saturday.

The defending champion met fellow Northwich bowler Mark Winnington in the final at Pochins Social club in Middlewich, after both came through exciting semi finals 21-19.

Gurney overcome Winnington 21-14 in the final to win the trophy and the £250 first prize.

STAN JOINS MEMORIAL HALL OF FAME

Middlewich Guardian, Wednesday 26th June

Stan frith added the Alan Bratt Memorial to his trophy cabinet on Saturday Night. The Northwich bowler won the cup and £250 prize for the first time at Pochins Sports & Social club with a 21-18 victory over Bollington's Paul Bradley.

Frith's closest match of the night came in the last eight when he faced Jason Cornes and won 21-19 before he saw off Mark Nicholls from Holmes Chapel 21-9 in the semi final.

Home interest in the trophy was ended in the quarter final when Pochins Paul Morrey went out 21-14 to former winner Tommy Round of St Helens, who lost out to Bradley for a place in the final.
