Farmers Arms beat Delamere by 3 chalks at Lostock alkali on Friday in one of the most exciting finals for years. ALF TURNS BACK THE CLOCK
Northwich Guardian, Thursday 7th July.
A fine effort by their captain former Witton Albion star Alf Ashley helped Owley Wood C surmount a 30 chalk handicap to beat Octel by 8 chalks in the final of the Whitby Cup at Winnington Park on Friday.
There was nostalgia for Alf after Winnington Park chairman Tom bebbington had presented him with the handsome trophy. He told me that's the first cup I've been handed since Witton won the Cheshire senior cup against Altrincham at Crewe in 1956.

NOT SO EASY FOR CONS
Northwich Guardian, 6th September.
Wharton Cons fell just four shots short of Slow & Easy in a thrilling Whitby Cup final on Friday night.
Although Wharton made a great start at Pochins club, Middlewich, and had the five biggest victories on the night, they were unable to pull back the 75 handicap.
Glynn Cookson got the game underway with a 21-9 win over Norman Hardy, Peter kelly repeated the score over Andy Woodyatt, while Barry Cookson beat Dennis Aldred 21-4.
However Slows middle four got them back into the game, the highlight being Eilleen Bostocks 21-17 victory over Ivan Wilkinson. The clinching points came from Peter Illidge whose 21-13 margin over Mark Cookson left Alan Vickers too much to do in the final game as Slow & Easy won 343-239.

NOT SO EASY FOR KELSALL
Winsford Guardian,Thursday 13th September.
Kelsall put their name on the Whitby cup for the first time on Friday night. They beat Slow & Easy, who were going for a hat trick of victories in the final, ending their 17 game winning run in the competition.
It could hardly of been closer, as Kelsall won 271-263, overcoming their opponents 21 point handicap start. They did this mainly by taking a maximum 126 points from their first six blocks, thanks to wins by John Biddle, Graham Stubbs, David Owen, Alan Bannister, Andrew Rose and Harry Nicholas' 21-21 draw with Andy Woodyatt.
John hardy, Brian Taylor and Norman Hardy won three on the run, but Roger Trousdale and Frank Nicholas, who was playing his first game back after a knee opperation, edged Kelsall ahead before John Spruce kept his nerve in the final game to beat Peter Illidge 21-15.
It brought the curtain down on a night when the entertainment began before a bowl was bowled.
Despite letters being sent to both secretaries, some players failed to comply to the dress code, and some hasty costume changes had to be made before the show started. At the end of the evening one of the host club Castle Private's players Nigel Faulkner, a director of sponsors S & F flooring presented the cup.

KELSALL ON RED ALERT
Middlewich Guardian, Wednesday 4th September.
kelsall made the most of their handicap to retain the S&F flooring Whitby cup on Monday night. They had a 49-12 start on Frodsham Red Lion, who were just nine points away from overturning it.
But despite victories for Richie Jamieson (21-7), Kevin Nicholas (21-8), Jim Large (21-9) and Rob Winnington (21-9), Frodsham had to settle for another runners up spot.
Two weeks earlier they missed out on the Brunner Cup when Sale Excelsior beat them.
at Comberbach on Monday, their bowlers just couldn't do enough as Kelsall won 250-241. It was their second successive triumph after winning the Whitby cup for the first time in 2001.

RUDHEATH CELEBRATE CUP DOUBLE
Northwich Guardian, Wednesday 3rd october.
Rudheath Private's C team has become only the fifth in the Mid Cheshire bowling associations history to win both team knockout competitions in the same season.
They defeated top flight favourites Owley Wood B at Hazel Pear on Friday to add the Whitby Cup to the Littler cup crown they won for the second time in three years earlir this summer.
The section five champions had only three winners, Phil Scott, Doug Stocking and Paul Hennin, but two of those were in the final three blocks of a close encounter. Rudheath, who started with a 96 chalk handicap advantage, ran out victors by a margin of 26.
They emulate a feat first achieved by Yarwood's in 1962, and matched by Owley Wood in 1968 and 1983. Lostock were the last in 1998.

LATE FIGHTBACK IN CUP VICTORY
Northwich Guardian, Wednesday 14th October.
Comberbach A captured the Whitby Cup on Sunday following a dramatic turnaround in their final encounter with Castle Private A.
Trailing their Premier division rivals by more than 20 chalks with four blocks left, head to head wins for Dave Thurwell (21-17), Stuart Kelett (21-10), and Dan Moores (21-11) turned a tight contest their way.
Comberbach emerged as victors by a single chalk after both teams had returned six winners.
Castle's best were Dave O'Brien who restricted Craig Bourbonneux to six marks, Ian Howell (21-10) and Kevin Duncalf (21-11).
There war drama in Rob Winnington's clash with Jon Gurney, the Castle man roaring back from 18-8 adrift to win. But it was not enough to prevent their rivals from collecting the trophy they had most recently won in 2010.
