DIVISION 1
SATURDAYS MATCHES : SANDBACH THRASHED
What a splendid team, why there is nothing you have yet had out approaching it, and the opposition was nothing to many who have visited Winnington this season. Systematic arrangements can only account for it.
The result was a severe reverse to Sandbach, and many of these occurances will cause them to be in a very sorry position at the close of the season. The games averaged exactly nine a man, a very low score indeed, and, as I have often said, it only goes to show the great home superiority of the Winnington team. W. Challinor was the hero of his side by a great win from Jack Unsworth by 21-16, and distinct credit must be given him by his team mates. After 5-2 in his favour, he fell in arrears up to 16-14, but from this point he played very well to claim game.
E. Wright played very hard to stave off defeat, and well it was for George Isherwood that he got such an enormous lead, or things might have been otherwise. after two all, Isherwood got a splendid run to 15-2, but failed to score again until 9-16. Wright was again away to 13-16, three in arrears at 15-18, but, after a single at 20-16, lost the game 21-16, leaving Isherwood with an unbeaten record.
F. Mason stuck well to W. Drysdale up to 10-8 in his favour, but from this point gradually lost ground, for Drysdale to win 21-12, while C. Heathcote made a very creditable show against R. Norcross 21-2 !. My word, Robert, you have meant buisness !, but why rub it in to such an extent ?. He is only a very young one.

VERDIN PARK PLAY HARD
Although the chances of premier league honours are again gone for at least another year, Verdin Park have a great chance of second position, and are fighting very hard for it. Wharton are their dangerous rivals, although, as the table now stands, the Verdins are four points ahead.
Lostock were the visitors on Saturday, a fixture that is always looked for and enjoyed, and in m,any instances the games were very hard fought and lucky, but good wins for the Parkites.
Harry Stagg had to be right on top to beat Jimmy Booth, and it was not until 17 all that Stagg was in any way superior. A. McDonald made a good win from E. Faulkner, for, after being in arrears 1-6, 4-9 and 11-7, he caught his man at 17, and, hanging on, he scored the last two singles to win 21-20. Faulkner is only a fresh league player but appears to have great confidence and a good delivery. his performances so far are very good indeed.
Gerald Cross had all his work cut out to defeat Joe fryer, although the latter had him dead off colour, and only the great improvement of the final ends made the victory one to savour. Harry Stubbs made a splendid win from Jimmy Renshaw and had the latter gone to 21 no one could of begrudged him his point. After leading 8-3 and 9-7, Stubbs fell in arrears 14-9 and 19-12, Renshaw playing some splendid woods. At this point Stubbs found a couple 'on the pear tree' and keeping his opponent on this mark ran to game 21-19, completly fagging Renshaw by his hurry during the game.
W. harrison and T.W. Cowley were in great form and defeated F. costello and Jack ashley by the large scores of 21-5. For Lostock, Edgar Peover, Jim Goodier and H. Johnson were winners, and none could deny them the superiority on the days play.

RUDHEATH FIGHT AGAINST FATE
To say that Rudheath are doomed to the second division is only true, for nothing but a miracle can keep them from being bracketed with some other club. Which ?. the committee have my greatest sympathyfor they have worked hard to foster their players, and genial Jimmy Harper would not be the man to be satisfied with one match. 'Give them a chance' was his motto, and it still stands good. Let them commence the season with the present team, and there would be a great difference.
Wharton were the visitors on Saturday, and some splendidly fought games were witnessed, being of the closest possible order in many instances. Ted Kettle met a tartar in Dan Melbourne, playing behind him all through up to 17-14, he got in for a nice run of 6 (20-17) and after another couple against him won 21-19.
A splendid game was that between H. Kirkham and George Brookes. It was neck and neck right up to 15 all, Brookes then taking the lead at 18-15. He fell in arrears 20-18, but getting in for a single at 19-20 scored two beauties to win 21-20. The game between S. Buckley and Joe Bratt was worth going a long way to see, Bratt gaining the verdict, 21-19. After leading 14-8 and 17-14, they were together at 17, 18 and 19, Bratt scoring the last double.
the bowling of both Joe Lloyd and E. Curzon was splendid, and, although the victory was claimed by Wharton, Lloyd has the happy recollections of gaining a moral victory, for he played with cool determination and never played a better game in his bowling days.
Speaking of this match reminds me that the Wharton club will be jubilating tomorrow night, for its their club cup competition, and as this is always a great day I shall endevour to be in attendance. The semi final ties between P. Griffiths versus J. Betteley, and C. Hamlett Snr versus H. Bratt. All are popular and respected bowlers, and whoever wins will deserve it. Bowling commences at 6:30pm, directly after the conclusion of the Witton Central match.

WITTON CENTRAL'S GREAT WIN
Witton Central are playing desperately hard to escape relegation, and in their last four matches at home they have scored 38 points out of a possible 48, or a good dozen more than either Newton or Rudheath. They have still three matches at home, and if they can secure 24 points out of these, they will come out of the bottom two.
the Central lads appear to be in fine form, several of the scores being very large indeed. Jesse Winnington completely walked away with J. Higgins, making the great score of 21-2. H. Arrowsmith played well to win by 21-6 from J. Taylor, but Harry is rather good on his green, the big drop being a particular favorite of his.
Randall Lambert defeated J. O'Hara 21-4 after holding the great lead of 16-1. For Newton, E. Kaye defeated A. Forster by 21-18, and must of played a good game, for I have often watched these lads at practice, and the wonder is that on a fast green any points at all are taken away. George Higgins, who did so well in the merit, made a big score against Harry Kaye, and George Dickenson found W. storey a bit too good to enable him to repeat his 1908 performance.

MIDDLEWICH RECREATION TROUNCE DAVENHAM
Middlewich Recreation were entertaining Davenham, and treated them to one of the best whackings of the season. The rest obtained, and the experience gained, through the recent merit competition had been a great stimulus. Eleven points to one is a great victory at all times and to obtain this result at the expence of a team like Davenham is indeed good.
W. Sproston was in fine form, and defeated Sam Stringer by 21-3, the latter failing to score after 3-7. Tom Healy made a good win from Captain Miller. He was in front at 15-12, but fell in arrears 19-15, when to the chagrin of his opponent, he played wonderfully well and ran to game with a run of 6, to win 21-19.
Peter preston was opposed by Charlie Dawson, who was drafted into the team at the last moment, and, playing well, had the great lead of 8-1, 11-3, and 20-7. From this point, Dawson seemed to get his length better, and bowling well, reached 16-20, before Preston beat him a good one, to win 21-16.
For Davenham, J.D Harrop secured the only point, defeating Sam Oakes by 21-18, after a good game, while George Parry and Charlie Shaw each played well for losers, and caught their opponents right on top form.
