WRAIGHT RETAINS RUDHEATH CROWN.

Northwich Guardian, Wednesday 28th May.

Members of the Mid Cheshire bowling association could not stop Shrewsbury's Callum Wraight retaining his Rudheath Spring pen title on Saturday. Castle private's Steve Curbishley came closest to knocking Wraight off his perch, but despite being the last Mid Cheshire competitor left, he suffered a 21-15 defeat in the semi finals.

Curbishley saw off Chris Brown in the quarter finals, where Castle team mate Jason Cornes suffered defeat to Dean Ferris.

Castle Private's quartet was competed by Paul Mackie and Rob winnington, who both went out in the first round. Winnington was drawn against team mate Cornes, while the associations only other competitor was Tom Vickers. Vickers of Wharton Cons, lost to semi finalist Ferris.

Wraight, meanwhile, mapped his way to the semi final before having to face a Mid Cheshire bowler.

He was on the green first at the Middlewich Road venue and promptly got the better of Lee Dale and Joe Williamson before facing Curbishley.

Wraight defended his title with a 21-20 sucsess against Wayne Phillips in an all Shropshire final to pocket a £600 reward.

Mid Cheshire's Clive Nelson said,' a big thank you to all who made this event playable, at 3pm the green was underwater. Thanks to the many volunteers we ended the night with some tremendous bowling, Callum becoming our first double champion'.

Not playable 30 mins before the first game. But thanks to the work put in by the club members the final went on, and all ended well.
