STAFFORD PAIR ARE CHAMPIONS
Northwich Guardian, Wednesday 25th August.
Staffordshire pair Mel Evans and Lynn Pritchatt became the competitions third different champions after winning Saturday's final at the Weaverham venue. They defeated Mid Cheshire duo Thomas Vickers and Rob Winnington 21-4 in a ne sided contest to take home the winners share of the £900 prize pot.
Evans and Pritchatt had beaten Altrincham tandem Steve Baskerville and Roger Morgan by the same score in their last eight battle.
'They found a mark that worked for them and stuck to it,' said organiser Mark Winnington.'That made it difficult for their opponents to build up any momentum, It's nice to have new winners.'
The eventual victors were pushed all the way by Crewe's Craig and Steve Morrey in the last four, squeezing through by a single chalk after a close encounter.

COOKSONS PROVE TO STRONG
Northwich Guardian, Wednesday 22nd August.
Father and son tandem Glynn and Simon Cookson became the fifth winners of the annual Owley wood open pairs on Saturday.
the wharton Cons duo, who celebrated success in the Brunner cup final seven days earlier, added another trophy to their collection after defeating former winners Martin Lloyd and Mark Winnington at the Weaverham venue.
The duo had hoped to become the first pair to win the competition more than once. The Cooksons, conquerors of Adam and Francis Penlington in the semi finals, received the Ken Winnington trophy from one of the former Guardian cup winners ex team mates, Ken Birtwistle.
'It was a nice touch,' said organiser Mark Winnington 'I saw Ken at the green only a couple of weeks before, so asked if he could help out as he played with my dad. He was happy to'.
