ELLIS ENTERS HISTORY BOOKS
Northwich Guardian, wednesday 1st July.
Barry Ellis made history in Mondays final at Rudheath Private.
the Frodsham red lion veteran became the first man in the competition's history to lift the silverware on more than one occasion, he was champion back in 2006 too, after beating Jon Malisch (Slow & Easy).
He edaged a close encounter 21-19.
Malisch made him work for his share of the £450 prize pot, winning three doubles at 13-19 to level the scores before Ellis snatched the next two ends. Victory gives him a huge boost heading into Fridays Roberts bakery cup final, where he starts as a rank outsider.
It was a night to forget for Moulton bowlers, who made up half the last eight. Thomas Dignum, Peter Galley and Nick Walton all made quarter final exits, while Peter Walton lost to Malisch in the semi finals.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY FOR NICK
Northwich Guardian, Wednesday13th August
It may cost him a few beers, but for a Moulton bowler the perfect birthday present was emerging as victor at the end of the Challenge shield finals night.
Nick Walton, who turned 43, last week, gained some revenge by seeing off Tony Malisch 21-10 in the singles handicap competition final after the defending champion knocked him out last year.
And having beaten best friend and teammate peter Grannell, in the quarter finals, Walton was delighted to clinch the crown at Crowton.
‘I was made up with it,’ said Walton, who beat Anthony Hallwood (Barnton) in the last four.
‘I didn’t expect to win it this time around as I hadn’t been playing well. I played Peter in the first match. It was very difficult as we are best friends, so it’s cost me a few beers. After that I played all right in the semi final and then in the final I improved, so I was getting better and better as the night went on. It was a great birthday present. Tony knocked me out of it last year, so I got my own back I guess.’
Walton also won the competition four years ago, but the clubs bowls section secretary admits he only intended to make up the numbers this time round.
‘Its been up and down and this was the first competition I entered this year because I haven’t been playing well,’ he said. 'I’ve got bad eyes and am registered blind, which was a bit of a problem come the final as it was getting a bit dull. I bowl with Orange woods, so I do get a few comments. I wasn’t expecting to win, that is for sure’.
