SKIRVINGS IN MELROSE

While the name of Skirving in Scotland leaves us some tantalising loose ends that may be more wishful thinking that reality - such as a rebel against authority and an author - - we do at least know for certain where they link in with our Watsons. 

In the grounds of Melrose Abbey is one grave in particular worth noting. It has the following inscription : 

In Memory of 

CATHERINE VOGAN
Spouse to GEORGE SKIRVING

portioner in MELROSE

Born 24: Aug: 1741 & Died 3 Feb 1803

Also 

GEORGE SKIRVING their son

Born 21: Oct : 1783 & Died 23 Nov 1804

Also PETER SKIRVING DODS 

Son of GEORGE DODS And

CATHERINE WATSON who

Died 3d. August 1810 Aged 

Six months
