ROBERT THOMAS CHARLES SCOTT & AGNES CATHERINE SCOTT (nee Watson)

Robert Thomas Charles Scott was born on December the 13th 1884 in the district of Sandness, Parish of Walls, Shetland. Note the record shows him illegimate until the parents are married. Also note that this person is the son of someone of the same name who is married to Agnes Georgeson. And this immediately confuses the situation as it conflicts with geni.com and other records.

Robert married Agnes Catherine Watson, a daughter of Thomas Boswell Watson.

The notes that I inherited from my father appear to have an error regarding the date. Robert Thomas Charles Scott M. D. (R. N.) of Melby

Geni.com notes:

Robert Thomas Charles Scott, Birthdate:January 01, 1812, Birthplace: Melby, Sandness, Shetland Islands, UK, Death:January 06, 1875 (63); Melby, Sandness, Shetland Islands, UK; Place of Burial:Sandness, Shetland Islands, UK

Immediate Family: Son of John Scott and Mary Scott; Husband of Agnes Catherine Scott; Father of Agnes Mary Catherine Scott; Florence Sobieski Stuart Scott and Robert Thomas Charles Scott; Brother of Charles Scott; Half brother of Clementina Mary Webster; John Scott and Jessie Scott

Occupation:Deputy Inspector of General Hospitals and Fleets.

And Geni.com notes for his wife:

Agnes Catherine Scott (Watson). Birthdate:December 27, 1838. Birthplace:Poland. Death:October 17, 1913 (74). 99a Commercial St, Lerwick, Shetland Islands, UK

Immediate Family:

Wife of Robert Thomas Charles Scott
Mother of Agnes Mary Catherine Scott; Florence Sobieski Stuart Scott and Robert Thomas Charles Scott

It is the professional role of Robert that my father and others wrongly attributed to the family legend that a family member attended the dying Lord Nelson. See SCOTT AND ADMIRAL LORD NELSON. That battle was on the 21st October 1805. That Scott had no sons.

Our Robert was the son of John Scott (again Geni.com):

Birthdate:December 13, 1760; Death:January 29, 1860 (99); Edinburgh, City of Edinburgh, UK;

Immediate Family:Husband of Elizabeth Scott; Father of unknown Scott; John Scott; Catherine Scott; unknown Scott; James Scott and 11 others

The Scotts of Melby at Sandness in the Shetlands are reputed to have been lairds of Foula. I have also found out that Robert Thomas Charles Scott owned the island of Vaila. This island had, just as had Foula, been in the Ciske family, and later  became the property of Alv Knutsson. See SCOTTS IN SHETLAND for more on this.

The following is an extract from the pages of the Valuation register showing that for the island of Vaila in the county of Zetland listing the property of "Robert Thomas Charles Scot Esq of Melby" at the time of his death.

Below is the record of Robert Thomas Charles Scott's death.

I have two photographs of Robert TC Scott. The first is from http://www.pjjnet.demon.co.uk/photos/jamieson/rj-bll/p01-05.htm

"Dr R.T.C. Scott of Melby & Sheerness, 1868". (Thanks to Shetland Family History Society).

The other is from a photocopy from an unknown sources, but as sent to my father [by I.K.]. (Original a framed oil painting).

"Photo taken at H. Hunt Jnr, 1a Constantia Terrace, Marine Town, Sheerness".

The following is of Agnes Catherine Scott (nee Watson). [Also from I.K.] (Original a framed oil painting).

This is the record of Catherine's death in 1913 (Scotland's People).

THE COUNTY FAMILIES OF THE SHETLAND ISLANDS by Frances J Grant Published 1893. This gives a genealogical record from the year 890 until this member of the family.
