CHERRY IN SOUTH AFRICA

I need to include this branch of the family as it has its place amongst my stories even though I know almost nothing about them. I had not even known there were Cherry famiy in South Africa until very recently when some of Uncle Hugh Wells's notes came to light. In them he refers to :

....the home of “Great Aunt and Uncle Cherry”. He had been a magistrate in Transkei and had retired to Kentani. He was my mother's mother's brother (twin).

I did not even know that my maternal grandmother (Hugh's mother's mother) had a twin. If so, which brother?

And what was he doing in South Africa?

We know that grandmother Annie Wells (nee Crawford, but whose mother's maiden name was Cherry) had a sister come out to nurse an ailing sister. The Crawford and Cherry families had been very close while in Belfast. Did the connections and events influence each other?

Although at the time not thought to be connected at the time, I have two memories that may just substantiate all this. One is a Sunday School teacher at the Chirstian Science Church by the name of Cherry. The families had been Christian Scientists in Belfast. (The name of "Cherry" stuck in my young mind). The other is of a visit to an old lady in Idutwya in Transkei with my parents. I thought she had Watson links, but was this rather a Cherry?
