ANNA (or Annie) CATHERINE CRAWFORD (nee Cherry)

My great grandmother.

We are here discussing Annie senior ie my great grandmother. One of her daughters, also Annie, became my grandmother. (For Annie Crawford who became Annie Wells and was often known as Pat, see WELLS ANNIE).

Her maiden name was Anna Catherine Cherry and confusingly was also known by her middle name Catherine.

Her father was William Cherry.

Her mother was Elizabeth Cherry (nee Paton).

Anna Crawford lived to the age of 104 - some records suggest 105. Considering that vast array of children she bore and, this was an extraordinary feat.

We have a telegramme to her from Buckingham Palace congratulating her reaching 100 years of age in 1956. At this time she is living at 20 Leith Mansions, Grantully Road, W9, London.

The 1901 census notes her as "wife" and a presyterian; birthplace County Down. The 1911 census notes her as "head of family" and a Christian Scientist; birthplace Dromore (which is in County Down. By that time she had been widowed but the household appears very full of family and relations. As she aged it appears that her youngest (surviving) daughter, Daisey, looked after her. This must have initially been in Ireland. Daisey never married, possibly influenced by this responsibility, but did get a job (as described in her section ). Later Daisy moved to London and perhaps this is why her mother, Annie, moved there too.
