FROM CHARLOTTE SQUARE TO FINGAL'S CAVE

Reminiscences of a Journey through Scotland 1820-1824 by Krystyn Lach-Szyrma.

Edited and introduced by Mona Kedslie McLeod. Tuckwell Press. 2004.

ISBN 186232 218 X.

This book does not cover any aspect of our family story directly, but it presents both a fascinating account of Scotland at the time that Polish aristocracy were being attracted to its development and the the scenario the preceded the emigration by many Scots to Poland - including our Kedslies and Watsons.

LEAVING SCOTLAND

Mona McLeod.

National Museums of Scotland.

ISBN 0 948636 83 1

This small book covers emigration from Scotland to all over the worlds. It is useful in its general coverage. A point of concern though is the brief and inaccurate entry on South Africa, completely ignoring the important British 1820 Settlers, which are most relevant to our family.

NUNC ANIMIS' THE KAFFRARIAN RIFLES 1876-1986

Francis L. Coleman

Published by The Kaffrarian Rifles Assn. (1988);

ISBN 10: 0620128038 ISBN 13: 9780620128032

This book describes the history of the Kaffrarian Rifles who are based in East London, South Africa. My father Brian Watson took a keen interest in the "KR" after the war. He is mentioned in the book with regard to service in North Africa during WWII. In fact he contributed to the text and some of our architectural staff produced some of the maps.

A Small World - The Descendants of Charles Weber

Norma van As.

Citadel Press, Landsdowne, Capetown. 1981.

ISBN 0 620 05226 0

This is an extraordinary resource. Norma van As gives a great deal of background information followed by exhaustive genealogical lists.

While it may have a focus other than us Watsons, it gives considerable coverage of us and our relatives. See from page 116 for Millers for general descriptions of their often hard lives. See from page 334 for general genealogy from Dennison and Miller leading to Newman and then Watson on page 336.
