THE GREAT REVOLT 1381
The great revolt of 1381 (not really a peasants revolt) was due in main to poor wages, kept artifically low after the black death and increased taxes due to the Hundred years war. Sounds almost like a run up to today! Common people, artisans, merchant and trades people, plus a number of the clergy and minor nobility were the main objectors, not the peasants in the fields. Amongst the rebels were a considerable number of out of work soldiers and people with military training. This tinderbox started in Kent with people refusing to pay there taxes and grew rapidly from then spreading rapidly from Kent into Essex and into surrounding counties.
