Previous walks. Beinn Mhealaich. 6/09/2015

It was a lovely morning with clear blue skies. Beinn Mhealaich is situated a couple of miles west of Helmsdale. We eventually  found a parking space in the narrow roads of Gartymore. It is a part of Helmsdale I have never been to before and is very quaint and beautiful.

We set off along a good track through the purple heather covered moorlands. After a mile or two the track petered out and we started climbing the soggy moorland to our goal. It was quite hard going as there were deep peat hags filled with water. Walking became easier nearer the top as the heather grew shorter and there were less gulleys.

At last we reached the top and had lunch in the shelter of the summit cairn as there was a strong wind blowing. The views were marvellous. After a short rest and some food we headed back down.
