Handa Island and The Point of Stoer. 1st and 2nd June 2013. It was an 8.00am start to reach Tarbet where we had to catch the ferry to Handa Island. The rest of the party had already booted up and were raring to go by the time we reached Tarbet. We said we would catch them up at the boat. Five minutes later they returned with the bad news that the ferry had broken down and would not be repaired for several days. Plan B was swung into action with a walk instead from Tarbet to Scourie where we were going to spend the night. It was a good walk over a rocky landscape with many dips and rises. We eventually reached Scourie after having to find our way through a seemingly impenetrable barrier of gorse on the last mile. The next day, Sunday, after a good breakfast at the b&b we headed by car to Stoer Lighthouse. From there we walked out to The Old Man of Stoer and Stoer Point. Five rock climbers were busy ascending The Old Man when we arrived there. It looked pretty scary stuff and I had to admire them for their skill and courage. We eventually made our way back to our transport and the long journey back home.
