Freswick to Keiss 05/02/2012

We decided to start the walk at Keiss Harbour as the wind and occasional showers of squally rain were coming from the south west. This would have us walking with our backs to the wind and rain. We had left the cars at Skirza harbour which made the walk a bit longer. Gluttons for punishment!

The old and new Keiss castles are a short walk from the harbour and they both looked very dramatic in the winter sunshine. The coastline along this part of Caithness is quite stunning and I would recommend it to anyone. The ruins of Buchollie castle perched on its lonely promontory are well worth a visit.

The day gradually improved and by the time we stopped for some food on Freswick beach you could have sworn there was a hint of spring in the air! What a lovely thought.
