Glen Loth, Ben Uarie. 02/10/2011.

The forecast for the day was good but by the time we travelled down the road as far as Berriedale the weather started to deteriorate. A misty drizzle was blowing in from the sea. Never mind I thought to myself. The weather always improves once you leave the Ord of Caithness.

Oops! How wrong was I. At Glen Loth it was the full works on. Head to toe waterproofs. Some brave members tried t-shirts only but they were persuaded to give up this idea after a wee while! Visability was quite bad with a thick mist which became worse the higher we climbed ( Is mist just low cloud?) We had to rely on g.p.s. and compass to find the top of Druim Dearg.

There was a stop for some refreshments, some more compass readings and arguments and then onward and upward ( some downward for a short while!) to Beinn Dhorain at 2054 feet. The wind had become stronger and there were a few squally rain showers. It was decided to give Ben Uarie a miss because of the poor conditions so we took a bearing on a burn which ran down to the main road and followed it down the hill.

As we walked along the road back to the cars the rain and clouds lifted and the sun came out. Typical Scottish weather!
