Ham Harbour to Scotland's Haven 02/12/2012

The road was quite white and frosty when we left  Wick but this gradually changed to a greener countryside by the time we reached Ham. Because of the shorter hours of daylight we agreed to drive along the coast a few miles and start the walk from Scarfskerry harbour instead. It was not long before we stopped to have a tea break at Harrow Harbour. There is a plaque on the harbour wall in honour of Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin fame, who opened the harbour in April 1979. ( I love Led Zeppelin!). We continued along the coast, picking our way carefully along a gravel beach covered in slippery rotting seaweed. I was glad it wasn't summer as the flies would have been rising from it in thick clouds. We made our way past the Castle of Mey and along to Long Goe Farm. We had to make our way inland here as the path disappears due to coastal erosion. We picked up the coast again further on and headed for St John's Point. A cold vicious wind was blowing of the sea which was boiling over the reefs which litter this point We had another tea break at the small harbour which is just south of St John's Head before making our way to Scotland's Haven. We were hoping to see some seals there but they must have known we were coming and had all gone away!
