Previous Walks.Rosal Township and Nature Trail. 5/7/2015.

The clearance village of Rosal ( Norse - Hrossa Voll or Horses Field ) is situated on the B871 road 22 kms south of Bettyhill. The day was already very warm when we left the cars at the small car park at the start of the nature trail.

The path quickly disappeared in a landscape which had been battered by the fierce storm in January. Fallen trees blocked the way which we climbed over, crawled under, or made our way round. It was good fun as an obstacle course. We made our way through the forest like this until it gradually thinned out and we got to the clearing at Rosal. We had ten to fifteen minutes of panic while we searched for Hamish who we thought was still lost in the forest. We needn't  have worried. We found him nonchalantly sitting down tucking into his sandwiches. We joined him before having a look around the grassy site. There is not a lot to see with only the stone outline of some buildings on the ground. It must have been hard to survive as the site is rocky and hilly with marshy hollows.

We took a different track back to the cars which avoided the challenge of the trees!
